Situated on the west coast
of the island of Newfoundland,
the park provides a rare example
of the process of plate
tectonics, where deep ocean
crust and the rocks of the
earth's mantle lie exposed. More
recent glacial action has
resulted in some spectacular
scenery, with coastal lowland,
alpine plateau, fjords, glacial
valleys, sheer cliffs, dunes and
sandy beaches, waterfalls and
many pristine lakes. Moose,
Caribou, Black Bear, Arctic Hare
and Bald Eagle share their
habitat with a unique blend of
friendly and hospitable people.
It's not just our landscapes,
the rolling waves of the
Atlantic Ocean, or the crumbled
canopy of tuckamore that covers
our landscape. It's also our
unique history and culture which
reaches back over thousands of
years. All these things, and the
way they come together, will
make your visit to Gros Morne
National Park, Newfoundland and
Labrador, Canada, a truly
unforgettable experience. |
